Teamsters 2011 April Bass Tournament

It was a good morning starting out at Newton Stewart South Ramp. The temperature was around 60 degrees. A total of 39 team’s showed up ready to compete for the top 3 positions. All boats took off at 8:00 a.m. and weighed in at 3:00 p.m. There was about a 45 minute to one hour delay in action due to one of the worst thunder storms I have ever fished with high winds, a torrential downpour of rain, lightning, plus marble size hail. Unfortunately, the storm drove many anglers off the water. Despite the bad weather early in the tournament we had a total of 8 teams catch 13 fish weighing a total of 44.45 lbs.

1st place team was Brian Carter & Ben Orr of Wearly Monument. Together they caught 2 fish weighing a total of 8.45 lbs with a payout of $1000.00. 2nd place team went to team Grey Lux & Den Johnson of Wheder Corp. They caught 2 fish with a total weight of 7.80 lbs and a payout of $500.00. 3rd place went to team Terry Bussberg & David Moore of Holland. They caught 3 fish weighing a total of 7 lbs with a payout of $300.00. The Big Bass of the day weighed 5.55 lbs and was caught by team Brian Cook & Ike Wilson with a payout of $390.00. Teamster President, Danny Barton offered to add $500.00 to be divided between the top 3 teams. $200 went to 1st and 2nd place and $100 went to 3rd place. Thanks Danny!!

I would like to, thank all the anglers who participated. Hopefully we will see you and many more at the tournament at Patoka Lake on September 10, 2011. President Danny L. Barton has promised that if we have participation of 75 teams, Local 135 will add an additional $1000.00 to the prize money to be distributed with the winnings!! So, help me help you increase the winning payouts and spread the word. Let’s reach that 75 team mark and have a record payout for our winners in the fall at Patoka.

We would also like to thank Tom Strong and Vickie Bender who are in the Indiana Teamsters Safety and Training Program for their administrative help as well as the time they put in at the tournament. Thanks to Jim Wilkerson and “Scrub” for manning the take off boat that Harvey Edwards at Patoka Marina furnishes for the Teamster tournament. Thanks to Tim Reed, Kelly Glass and Matt Stone who do such a great job of making sure we have plenty to eat and drink after every tournament. Finally, my sincere thanks to the numerous volunteers behind the scenes, former co-workers and family, your help and cooperation continues to make each tournament a success and is greatly appreciated. Again, we hope to see you all in the fall at Patoka on September 10, 2011.

Teamsters Bowling for Charity

Teamsters family night with the Indiana Ice

As in the past it was another great night for it was pack the house night with the Indiana Ice on Feb 26, 11. More than 300 Teamsters Local 135 members, family members and friends showed up to show support for the Indiana Ice. The game was hard fought up until the final second, but the Ice leaving the rink with a 5 to 4 loss. Fun was had by all and was a great break after many members and staff of Local 135 had spent several days rallying at the Indiana statehouse to stop bills introduced to take away workers rights to collective bargaining.
