Library Project

On Martin Luther King Day 1999, Kerry Michael Manders, Day Sort Chief Union Steward, made a presentation on behalf of the Crooked Creek community concerning the need for a neighborhood Public Library before the Library Board of Directors and a standing room only crowd of supporters. The Library Board agreed that the next new Library would be built on Michigan Road.

Several Libraries have been renovated since, including the expansion of the Main Library, before building the new stand-alone Michigan Road branch that is located on the south-east corner of Michigan Road and 62nd Street at 6201 Michigan Road. Kerry participated in the groundbreaking for the new Library on November 3rd, 2017.

The 20,000-square-foot Michigan Road Branch, which opened December 15, 2018, features spaces for early literacy programs, study, research and job skills counseling, seating for 100 patrons, a computer lab, 31 public access computer and a 100-seat community meeting room with integrated audio-visual equipment.
