Local 135 is proud to honor and recognize the heroism of our brother Blas Jimenez for saving a fellow Teamster’s life at work.
Thursday, September 3 was a normal work day for 18-year Zenith Logistics Teamster Blas Jimenez. He was picking an order and when he turned down aisle 29J where he found a fellow Teamster laying motionless and bleeding on the ground.
Jimenez did not hesitate. He sprung into action and immediately began to administer CPR to his fallen brother. “By the time I got there, Blas was already pumping his chest,” said Shop Steward Roy Clark.
While the minutes passed after calling 911, Brother Jimenez stayed focused on the task at hand. “He stepped in without thinking, tirelessly performed CPR until paramedics took over,” said Chief Steward Dave Morton.
The incident inspired Teamsters across the warehouse to take care of each other. “Going forward we are putting up a list for CPR training,” said Clark. “We can depend on each other.”
Nearly 200 Teamsters work at the Zenith Logistics warehouse. Despite not being close friends or having a relationship outside of work, Jimenez told shop stewards, “that’s my union brother.”
“Such an unfortunate incident showed us what being a Teamster is all about,” said Morton, “I’m proud of my brother Blas and our whole team.”
“Blas is a hero. I am humbled and honored to have him in our union family,” said Dustin Roach, Local 135 President and Principal Officer.
